    Tree Trimming and Pruning

Tree and shrub trimming is very important for two main reasons: to protect your property and keep your trees and shrubs healthy! When a tree has overgrown or dead branches, a storm or even high wind can knock down a branch and potentially cause damage. Additionally, if you leave dead branches up, they may attract insects such as termites and disease could spread throughout the tree.

    Stump Grinding and Removal

Stump grinding and stump removal both improve the look of your landscape and make landscaping easier. With stump grinding, we grind down the top of the stump, then put dirt over the it, so it seems unnoticeable. With stump removal, we actually remove the whole stump as well the roots. Although stump removal is more definite, it comes with a higher price tag.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How can I tell if a tree might have to be removed?

A few tell-tale signs that a tree may need to be removed include: the tree starts to lean, it has damaged roots, has a hollow or decaying trunk, or it has dead branches without buds. Although these are signs that your tree might be dying, it still may be able to saved through pruning and trimming.  Give us a call and we will come and inspect it, it still may be able to be saved!

    Should my tree be pruned?

Yes, many trees benefit from tree pruning! With tree pruning we essentially cut off the dead and overgrown branches, allowing all the nutrients to go towards the healthy branches. Tree pruning can extend the life of a tree while also decreasing the chances of falling branches. The best time to prune a tree is when it is still young, as it allows us to remove all of the branches with structural defects.

Does my tree have a disease/parasites?

There are many signs that your tree may have a disease/parasites. Some indicators of a disease include brown or yellow leaves, large pieces of bark peeling or falling off, fluid seeping near the base of the tree, or a white, powdery mildew on the leaves. Some signs of parasites include small, white clusters in the soil by the trunk of the tree, mud tubes on the bark, or stripped leaves. More diseases and parasites can be found here.

When should I trim my tree?

The most ideal time to trim your tree is during the winter months, from November to March. As the tree is dormant, it is less susceptible to disease and parasites, while also healing faster.

How can I tell if my tree is dead?

A few signs that your tree is dead include: fungus growing around the trunk, no bark regrowth, and bare branches with no leaves or buds. A dormant tree also has no leaves or buds, although this is solely due to seasonal changes.  You can often tell if a tree is dead or alive by scratching a branch, if you can see a green and moist layer under the top layer, the tree is alive. Test it on many branches, as the tree might be alive with a few dead branches. Check out this article for more tests and tips if you are still unsure.

Should I remove my tree stump or grind it?

Tree stump grinding only removes the visible part of the stump, while tree stump removal removes the entire stump and the roots. Both methods will make the ground look stump free. Tree stump grinding keeps the roots in the ground, allowing them to decay by themselves. With this, insects and decay may spread from the decaying roots. The full removal is more intrusive, but takes away many of the potential long term issues. A more in-depth comparison can be found here.
